Ultra High Pressure Solenoid Valve for Demanding Fluid Control Systems

When I work on a high pressure fluid control project, I do not start with the valve catalog.  I start with the system.

What fluid are we controlling? How high is the working pressure? What happens when the valve  opens? What happens when it closes? How often will it operate? What kind of sealing is needed?  What electrical signal will control it? And, perhaps most importantly, what happens if the  valve does not perform as expected?

These questions become even more important when the application involves aerospace equipment,  commercial spaceflight, research equipment, high pressure test benches, nuclear power systems,  or other specialized machinery.

Our Ultra High Pressure Solenoid Valve solutions are developed for these kinds  of demanding fluid control applications. At Xi'an Huiyuan Instrument Valve Co., Ltd., we have  decades of experience in the fluid control field. Our company originated from the Solenoid  Valve Branch of Xi'an Instrument Factory and was restructured into a joint-stock company in  1994.

Today, we combine technology development, manufacturing, and technical service. Our product  range includes fluid solenoid valves, electrically controlled valves, pneumatically controlled  valves, Pressure Reducing Valves, and special non-standard valves.

We have also worked on specialized fluid control products for aerospace, commercial  spaceflight, nuclear power, shipbuilding, military-related applications, research institutes,  and experimental testing systems.

For me, that background matters because a high pressure solenoid valve is rarely just a simple  on-off component. It is part of a larger system. The body, internal parts, seals, electrical  actuator, connections, manufacturing process, and testing method all have to work together.

This page explains how I approach the selection and development of an  ultra high pressure solenoid valve, what makes high pressure valve design  different, where these valves are used, and how we can support a customized project.

1. What Is an Ultra High Pressure Solenoid Valve?

In simple terms, a solenoid valve is a valve controlled by electricity. When the electrical  signal reaches the solenoid coil, the coil creates a magnetic field. This magnetic force moves  an internal component and changes the fluid path.

The basic principle is quite simple. The difficult part is making the valve work correctly  under demanding conditions.

When the pressure becomes very high, the forces acting on the valve body and internal  components increase. The sealing system also becomes more important. A small problem that may  not matter much in a low pressure system can become a serious problem in a high pressure  system.

This is why I would never select an ultra high pressure solenoid valve based  only on a product name or a single pressure number.

The actual pressure capability depends on the complete design. Material, wall thickness,  connection design, internal geometry, sealing method, temperature, fluid properties,  manufacturing quality, and qualification testing can all affect the final result.

Another important point is that "ultra high pressure" is not a universal pressure class that  means exactly the same thing in every industry. Different manufacturers and industries may use  the term differently.

Therefore, when a customer asks us for an ultra high pressure valve, I normally ask for the  actual pressure requirement rather than assuming a particular value.

Typical Functions

  • High pressure fluid shutoff

  • On and off fluid control

  • Pressure system switching

  • Test bench fluid path control

  • Gas or liquid isolation

  • Automated fluid system control

  • Aerospace fluid control

  • Research equipment fluid switching

Depending on the project, the valve can be designed as a normally closed or normally open  configuration, or according to another specified operating arrangement.

2. How Does a High Pressure Solenoid Valve Work?

Let me explain the working principle without making it unnecessarily complicated.

Inside the valve is an electrically controlled actuator. The main part is the solenoid coil.  When the control system sends power to the coil, the coil creates a magnetic field.

The magnetic field moves an armature or plunger. That movement changes the position of the  valve's internal sealing element.

In one state, the fluid path is blocked. In another state, the fluid path is open. Depending on  the design, a spring or another mechanism returns the valve to its original position when the  electrical signal is removed.

That sounds straightforward, but high pressure changes the engineering challenge.

Imagine trying to move a small internal part while fluid pressure is pushing against it.  The pressure creates a force that the valve mechanism must handle. At the same time, the  sealing surface must remain stable enough to prevent unwanted leakage.

That is why we consider the hydraulic or pneumatic forces, actuator design, sealing system,  internal flow path, and material selection together.

Normally Closed and Normally Open Designs

A normally closed solenoid valve stays closed when the solenoid is not  energized. When the electrical signal is applied, the valve opens according to its design.

A normally open solenoid valve works in the opposite basic way. The valve  remains open without the electrical command and changes state when energized.

Which arrangement is better depends on the system. In a safety-related application, for  example, the preferred default state may be different from a simple industrial automation  application.

I therefore recommend deciding the normal state from the system's failure logic rather than  choosing it simply because one version is more common.

3. What Makes Our Ultra High Pressure Solenoid Valve Different?

The biggest difference between an ordinary solenoid valve and a specialized high pressure  valve is not necessarily something you can see from the outside.

A high pressure valve needs careful control of the parts that contain pressure, the surfaces  that seal the fluid, the connections that join the valve to the system, and the moving parts  that control the flow.

Pressure Bearing Design

The pressure-bearing structure must be designed around the actual operating conditions. This  includes the body, internal cavities, connection area, and other pressure-loaded sections.

We do not treat pressure rating as an isolated number. We evaluate it together with temperature,  fluid, material, connection, and required testing.

Reliable Sealing

Sealing is one of the first things I look at in a high pressure valve.

The valve must prevent fluid from passing where it should not pass. The choice of seal,  sealing surface, material, and assembly method can therefore be critical.

Before shipment, we perform relevant sealing and performance inspections according to the  applicable product requirements.

Electrical Control

The solenoid provides a simple way to connect the valve to an automated control system.  Depending on the agreed design, the electrical interface can be matched to the customer's  control requirements.

Customized Construction

One of our strengths is special non-standard valve development.

A customer may need a special port arrangement, unusual installation dimensions, a specific  material, a special sealing system, or a particular electrical interface. Instead of forcing  the application to fit a standard valve, we can discuss a customized solution.

Controlled Manufacturing

High pressure valves leave little room for careless manufacturing. Machining accuracy,  cleanliness, assembly, surface condition, and inspection all matter.

We therefore treat manufacturing and testing as part of the product design, not as something  added at the end.

4. High Pressure Valve Selection: What I Compare First

When I compare two possible solenoid valve solutions, I do not look at price first. I first  compare the factors that can affect whether the valve will actually work in the system.

5. Material Selection for High Pressure Solenoid Valves

Material selection can look simple from the outside: choose stainless steel, titanium alloy,  or another metal and start machining.

In real valve engineering, it is more complicated.

The material has to work with the fluid, pressure, temperature, manufacturing process, and  sealing system. A material that performs well in one application may not be the right choice  in another.

Titanium alloys are one example. ASTM B348/B348M-25 covers annealed titanium and titanium  alloy bars and billets and includes a number of different grades. ASTM identifies Grade 5 as  a titanium alloy containing 6 percent aluminum and 4 percent vanadium. [1]

This is useful information when discussing titanium valve construction, but it does not mean  that every titanium solenoid valve uses Grade 5. The actual material grade should always be  confirmed by the product drawing and material certificate.

When stainless steel is the better technical and commercial choice, we can evaluate stainless  steel. When titanium is more appropriate, we can discuss titanium alloy construction. The goal  is not to make every valve from one material. The goal is to choose a material that makes sense  for the actual application.

6. Titanium Alloy or Stainless Steel: Which One Should I Choose?

This is one of the most common questions I receive. My answer is simple: it depends on what  the valve has to do.

Titanium can offer an attractive combination of strength, relatively low density, and  corrosion resistance. Stainless steel, on the other hand, is available in many grades and is  widely used for industrial valve construction.

Actual performance depends on the specific alloy grade,  manufacturing condition, fluid, temperature, pressure, and valve design. [1]

For a critical project, I would rather spend time checking the material than discover later  that the wrong material was selected.

7. Where Are Ultra High Pressure Solenoid Valves Used?

High pressure solenoid valves are useful in many industries, but the requirements can be very  different from one application to another.

Aerospace

Aerospace systems often have strict requirements for weight, reliability, installation space,  environmental conditions, and fluid control. We provide specialized valves and non-standard  fluid control products for aerospace-related applications.

When a valve is intended for actual airborne equipment, the applicable environmental and  qualification requirements should be identified by the customer program. I do not recommend  assuming that a general industrial valve automatically qualifies for airborne use.

Commercial Spaceflight

Commercial rockets and satellites require compact and reliable fluid control components.  Depending on the system, solenoid valves may be used to control gases or liquids, isolate  pressure sections, or manage test and operating sequences.

High Pressure Test Benches

Test benches are a particularly good example of where customized valves can make sense.  A test system may need to build pressure, hold pressure, isolate a chamber, switch a fluid  path, or release pressure in a controlled sequence.

In such systems, I pay attention not only to the valve itself but also to the timing and logic  of the complete test process.

Research Institutes

Research equipment often has requirements that are difficult to find in a standard catalog.  The pressure may be unusual. The working medium may be specialized. The installation space  may be extremely limited.

This is where our experience with special non-standard valves becomes useful.

Nuclear Power

Nuclear power equipment has demanding requirements for fluid control, materials, testing,  documentation, and system reliability. Any valve intended for such an application must be  evaluated against the specific project requirements and applicable regulations.

Industrial Automation and Specialized Machinery

Outside aerospace, high pressure solenoid valves can also be used in specialized industrial  automation, pneumatic equipment, pressure systems, process equipment, and experimental  machinery.

9. How We Manufacture and Test an Ultra High Pressure Solenoid Valve

When I explain our manufacturing process to customers, I often say that quality starts before  machining.

It starts with understanding the application.

1. Technical Requirement Review

We first review the working medium, pressure, temperature, electrical control, connection,  installation space, required valve state, operating cycle, leakage requirements, and testing  requirements.

If the customer already has a drawing, we review the drawing. If the project is still in the  design stage, we can start with the available technical information.

2. Valve Design

The valve structure is developed around the application. The pressure-bearing areas, flow  path, sealing arrangement, actuator, connections, and mounting requirements are considered  together.

3. Material and Component Selection

Materials are selected according to the working conditions. For specialized valves, this can  include the body material, internal metal parts, spring materials, sealing materials, and  electrical components.

4. Precision Machining

High pressure components require careful machining. Dimensions, threads, sealing surfaces,  internal passages, and connection areas need to follow the approved design.

5. Assembly

After machining and inspection, the valve components are assembled. The internal moving parts  and sealing elements need to be installed correctly so that the valve can operate as designed.

6. Performance and Sealing Inspection

Before delivery, we conduct relevant performance, sealing, and appearance inspections. For  customized projects, the inspection plan can be developed according to the agreed technical  specification.

7. Packaging and Shipment

We select packaging according to valve size, weight, and transportation requirements.  Moisture-resistant and shock-protective measures can be used. Cartons, wooden cases, or  pallets may be selected depending on the product.

Our goal is simple: the valve should arrive at the customer's facility in the same condition  in which it passed final inspection.

10. Quality Control Is Part of the Product

In a high pressure system, quality cannot be added after manufacturing. It has to be built  into the process.

Huiyuan operates with a quality policy focused on establishing and continually improving a  quality management system, developing high-quality products, and providing efficient technical  services.

The company has reported passing ISO 9001:2015, CE, SIL3 mandatory safety, and 3C mandatory  certifications for explosion-proof electrical equipment, according to the company information  provided for this page.

Certification scope is important. I would never recommend taking a company-level certification  statement and assuming that every product automatically has the same certification coverage.  For a specific project, the applicable certificate, product model, version, and scope should  be checked.

ISO describes ISO 9001 as a globally recognized quality management standard that defines  requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving a quality  management system. [2]

That approach fits the way we work. We want quality to be part of the complete process:  requirement review, design, purchasing, machining, assembly, inspection, testing, packaging,  and technical service.

11. Why Choose Huiyuan for a Customized High Pressure Solenoid Valve?

If you only need the lowest-cost standard valve, there are many suppliers in the market.  Our value becomes clearer when the application is difficult.

We have decades of experience in fluid control and a long history of producing solenoid valves  and special non-standard valves.

Our experience covers aerospace, commercial spaceflight, nuclear power, shipbuilding,  specialized machinery, research institutes, and experimental testing equipment.

We also understand that engineering projects do not always arrive at our factory as a perfect  drawing.

Sometimes a customer has a pressure requirement but has not finalized the valve structure.  Sometimes the installation space is fixed. Sometimes the working medium requires a special  material. Sometimes a research project needs a completely non-standard connection.

In those situations, I prefer to work through the technical problem with the customer.

13. Ultra High Pressure Solenoid Valve FAQ

What is an ultra high pressure solenoid valve?

It is an electrically controlled valve designed for fluid systems that operate at very high  pressure. The solenoid converts an electrical signal into mechanical movement to open or close  the fluid path.

What is the maximum pressure of your ultra high pressure solenoid valve?

The maximum pressure is not a universal value for every model. It depends on the valve design,  material, sealing system, connection, temperature, working medium, and required qualification.  Please provide your pressure requirement so we can evaluate the correct configuration.

Can you customize an ultra high pressure solenoid valve?

Yes. Customized non-standard valves are one of our important product areas. We can discuss  special materials, connections, dimensions, electrical interfaces, sealing arrangements, and  testing requirements.

What materials are available?

Material selection depends on the application. Depending on the project, materials may include  titanium alloys, stainless steels, and other suitable engineering materials. The final choice  is based on pressure, temperature, fluid compatibility, mechanical requirements, and the  customer's specification.

Can you manufacture a titanium high pressure solenoid valve?

Yes. Titanium alloy can be considered for applications where its material characteristics are  useful. The exact titanium grade must be confirmed during technical review.

Can the valve be used for aerospace applications?

We provide specialized fluid control products for aerospace and commercial spaceflight  applications. Whether a particular valve is suitable for an aerospace program depends on the  complete system requirements and applicable qualification criteria.

Can you supply valves for high pressure test benches?

Yes. Test equipment is an important application for our customized valves. We can discuss the  pressure sequence, fluid path, valve cycle, control method, connection, and installation  requirements.

What types of fluids can the valve handle?

The answer depends on the final material and sealing configuration. Please provide the exact  working medium so we can evaluate compatibility. I do not recommend assuming that a valve  suitable for water or air is automatically suitable for fuel, oxidizing gas, corrosive fluid,  or another special medium.

Is the valve normally open or normally closed?

Either configuration may be possible depending on the design. The correct choice depends on  how the system should behave when electrical power is removed.

How do you test the valve before delivery?

We conduct relevant performance, sealing, and appearance inspections before delivery. For  customized products, additional tests can be defined according to the agreed technical  specification and inspection plan.

How long is the production lead time?

Production time depends on the model, materials, specifications, quantity, customization, and  testing requirements. Standard products can normally be delivered faster. Customized high  pressure valves require a production schedule after the technical solution is confirmed.

How are the valves packaged?

We use moisture-resistant and shock-protective packaging where appropriate. Depending on the  size and weight, cartons, wooden cases, pallets, or other suitable packaging may be used.

What if I do not know which solenoid valve I need?

That is fine. Send us the working medium, pressure, temperature, voltage, connection,  installation space, and required function. We can use that information as the starting point  for technical selection.

Let's Discuss Your High Pressure Fluid Control Requirement

Choosing an Ultra High Pressure Solenoid Valve is not simply about finding  the highest pressure number.

The right valve has to match the fluid, pressure, temperature, electrical control, sealing  requirement, installation space, connection, operating cycle, and testing requirements.

That is how I approach valve selection at Huiyuan.

With decades of experience in fluid control and a strong background in special non-standard  valves, we can support projects ranging from standard industrial fluid control to demanding  aerospace, commercial spaceflight, nuclear power, research, and test equipment applications.

If you are searching for an ultra high pressure solenoid valve manufacturer,  a high pressure solenoid valve for aerospace, a  customized high pressure fluid control valve, or a valve for a  high pressure test bench, send us your requirements.

You can send a drawing, specification, existing valve sample information, or simply the basic  operating conditions. We will review the application and discuss a practical valve solution  with you.
